The Indian team are currently playing a practice match against County XI to prepare themselves to prepare for England test series. Until the end of the Day 1, the Indian team have played well and are at 306/9. The contributions came from KL Rahul’s century and Jadeja’s 75 which propelled India to a strong position. It will be a 3-day affair and the bowlers will need to find their rhythm soon for applying themselves better in the England conditions.
Virat Kohli is not a part of the warm-up game against the County XI, which started yesterday. He felt some stiffness in his back on Monday, as reported by the BCCI, and was advised rest by the Medical Team of the BCCI. It is unlucky for Virat, to be not able to play this game, and he will hope to back himself in the first test game against the England team. Rohit Sharma is captaining the side for this warm-up game, as even the vice-captain has a little swelling around his left upper hamstring, and will be easy for him to recover before the first game, that will take place on 4th August. Interestingly, Washi Sundar and Avesh Khan are playing for the CountyXI team; India’s opposition, as their players were unavailable due to covid or being in close contact with a covid infected person.
The wicket-keepers for the Indian team have played an integral role in the test matches. After Dhoni’s wicketkeeping and captaincy skills, the team needed support of young players for upliftment of the team. Then, the team chose two options, Saha and Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeping of Saha has been brilliant but he was not able to score runs, and Pant after failing improved his performance in the recent series and is looked upon as the permanent option.
Rishabh Pant was found COVID positive few days back and has returned with two negative test result. He is all set to join the bio-bubble secured team in Durham. The knock of KL Rahul in the warm-up match will certainly put pressure on the team management to include him in the 11 due to his fine track record in the limited-overs.
