India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I Postponed: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed that the second IND vs SL T20I match has been postponed. The game will now take place on 28 July after India all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid-19. The third and final T20I match will be held as per the original series schedule on 29 July.
In its latest media advisory, the BCCI mentioned that following the rapid antigen tests conducted on Tuesday match-day morning, Krunal Pandya tested positive for coronavirus. It has been revealed that as many as eight members have been identified as close contacts. The entire contingent will be undergoing RT-PCR tests on 27 July to ascertain any further outbreak in the India squad.
“The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India originally scheduled to be played on July 27 has been pushed forward by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28.
Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contacts,” stated the BCCI media release.
Things are still uncertain as to how did the virus enter the Indian camp as the entire contingent was staying in a bio-bubble. It is still unclear whether a possible bio-bubble breach happened in the India camp. This is also puts a big question mark on Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar, as they were supposed to join the rest of the Indian Test contingent after this T20I series for the Test matches against England. The BCCI informed on Monday that both Prithvi and Suryakumar have been added to the India updated Test squad after injuries to Avesh Khan, Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar. The second and third T20I matches between India and Sri Lanka will go on as per the new schedule only if the rest of the players test negative.
