Axar Patel Corona Positive: The Delhi Capitals have received a big blow before the start of IPL 2021, as all-rounder Axar Patel has recently tested positive for COVID-19. Patel has now been put in isolation according the regulations set by the BCCI. The 27-year-old was in mandatory quarantine before being tested positive, and will now have to isolate himself for 10 more days.

The past month or so was a memorable one for Axar Patel as he picked up 27 wickets from the three Tests versus England, which included four five-wicket hauls. He also featured in a T20 versus England before leaving the bubble ahead of the ODIs.

“Unfortunately, Axar has tested positive. He is isolating and all protocols are being followed,” the sources confirmed.

Axar Patel has featured in 97 IPL matches, which includes 80 wickets and an economy rate of 7.29. Last season, the left arm spinner was one of the most economical bowlers of the season and his exclusion in the first few games could cost the Delhi Capitals. The Capitals are also missing out on the services of their skipper Shreyas Iyer due to a shoulder injury, and it’s Rishabh Pant who’ll be leading the side instead.

Eight of Wankhade Stadium’s ground staff members were also recently tested positive for the virus and have been replaced by two different facilities in Mumbai. With the rise of cases in the nation and more particularly in Mumbai, the BCCI might have to make a decision regarding persisting with venue, or going with a change.
