IPL 2021: KKR Batsman Shubman Gill Shuts Down A Troll Questioning His Spot In Indian Cricket Team

Shubman Gill KKR: Shubman Gill has come a long way since making his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. His meteoric rise has seen him nailed down one of the opening spots in the Indian Test team, and not to mention the importance of the 21-year-old to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) set-up in the IPL. No doubt he deserves every bit of fame he is getting these days, but being famous has his own drawbacks. And Shubman Gill must learn to deal with all the negativity thrown towards him.

So it happened when a user commented on a post shared by KKR on Instagram. Commenting on the post, the anonymous user questioned Gill’s strike rate in the T20s. He used the words, “tuk-tuk”, which refers to a batsman with a low strike rate, and also questioned Shubnam Gill’s selection in the Indian Test team.

Shubman Gill: Strike-Rate Is Over-Rated

India’s emerging star racked up 440 runs for KKR in 14 games last season at a strike rate of 117.96, which was the lowest amongst the batsmen in the top-21. But in a recent interview, Gill played down the hype surrounding the strike-rate, and rather put more weight on a batsman’s ability to adapt to the situation and bat as per demand.

“I think strike-rate is kind of overrated,” Gill was quoted as saying.

“It’s all about how you adapt to a certain situation. If the team demands you to play with a strike rate of 200 you should be able to do it. If the team demands you to play at a strike rate of 100, you should be able to do it. It’s just about adapting to the match situation,” he said confidently. “There shouldn’t be a certain pattern to your game where you are only able to play one kind of game and not being able to adapt to different situations,” he added.
