All ten franchises will want to come up with strategy which helps them build a strong team for the next three or four seasons.
The official date for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction has not been revealed so far. However, going by the past trends, one can expect the auction to be held in mid-January.
Only four teams have retained their full quota of four players, which includes the likes of Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.
On the other hand, a few franchises have decided to go ahead with just two or three retentions ahead of the mega auction. Several world-class players are expected to go under the hammer at the mega auction.
All ten franchises will have a fixed budget to spend on players at the IPL Mega Auction. The budget depends on the number of retentions the eight original franchises have made. Moreover, the likes of Lucknow and Ahmedabad are set to get three picks each prior to the mega auction.
The auction will have different sets of players, categorized in terms of their roles. There will be a few marquee sets to start with, which will include some of the world’s finest players. According to past year trends, the mega auction of IPL is generally held for a period of two days. Towards the end of the two-day mega auction, franchises will have a chance to buy players that went unsold earlier in the auction.
The bidding process for the players in the auction pool will start from the base price. The base price could be in lakhs or could go as high as Rs 2 crore. The eight franchises will have to strictly build a team within their budget, which includes a restriction on the maximum number of overseas players allowed.
The bidding process will be conducted by an auctioneer over the course of the two days. Once a player has gone under the hammer, no further bids will be accepted.
