The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely, following escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after an emergency meeting, prioritizing the safety of players, officials, and fans.
The decision was boiling in the clouds, especially after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala, which was called off midway due to air raid alerts and security concerns in neighboring cities. Reports indicate that Pakistan launched aerial attacks on military bases near the western border, triggering blackouts and sirens across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The IPL match was halted after 10.2 overs, with players and spectators evacuated as a precautionary measure.
A senior BCCI official told PTI, “It does not look right that cricket continues while the country is facing a security crisis. The safety of players and fans is our top priority”. The tournament, originally scheduled to conclude on May 25, now stands postponed until further notice.
As of the suspension, 58 out of 74 scheduled matches had been completed, leaving 16 games, including playoffs and the final, pending. The sudden halt has left franchises, broadcasters, and fans in uncertainty, with no clarity on when the tournament might resume. Check the remaining games below.
Several international players have reportedly expressed concerns about their safety, with some considering an early departure from India. Cricket boards from Australia and England are closely monitoring the situation, ensuring their players remain secure.
The BCCI is exploring alternative options, including rescheduling matches later in the year or relocating games to neutral venues. However, with the geopolitical situation evolving rapidly, no concrete decisions have been made. For now, IPL 2025 remains on hold, with fans and stakeholders awaiting further updates from the BCCI and the Indian government.
