The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the venue for the Indian Premier League 2027, i.e., the IPL 2027 auctions. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced that the mini-auctions of the world’s most lucrative T20 franchise league is set to take place in Goa in December 2026. This announcement marks the official return of the league’s marquee bidding event to Indian soil after three consecutive editions were hosted at international venues.

Over the past three seasons, the BCCI has staged IPL auctions outside India, i.e., in Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi. While hosting the auctions abroad helped broaden the league’s global reach, logistical constraints, such as securing large five-star convention venues during India’s peak winter wedding season, had previously pushed the event to Middle Eastern destinations.
Confirming the location shift, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated:
“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi last year, we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December.”
With Goa finalized as the destination, all ten franchises will gather on home turf to assemble their squads for the 2027 season.
The IPL 2027 auctions will function as a mini-auction, representing the final squad-building window of the current three-year cycle. Rather than rebuilding entire rosters from scratch, franchises will retain their core groups while entering the bidding room to fill specific tactical gaps, release underperforming players, and utilize their remaining salary purse. The next mega auction will take place in 2028, where franchises will have to build their respective squads from scratch.
During the same interaction, the BCCI Secretary also announced a venue change for the upcoming multi-day fixture between India A Women and Australia A Women. Originally scheduled to take place in Dharamshala, the match was moved to the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali due to persistent heavy rainfall and unplayable ground conditions.
Explaining the relocation, Saikia remarked:
“We have recently shifted the upcoming T20 matches from Dharamshala to Mohali because the ongoing weather conditions in Dharamshala are not very conducive for cricket. A lot of rainfall has been taking place there. Because of this incessant rainfall in Dharamshala, we decided that the matches should be moved to Mohali to ensure cricket activities continue without any interference from the weather.”
Franchises are now awaiting the official notification regarding player retention deadlines and the finalized salary cap details ahead of December’s gathering in Goa. Expect an exciting battle on the table in the Tata IPL 2027 auctions.
