JUST IN: Massive Update on ICC T20 World Cup 2020

The buzz going around the fate of the ICC T20 World Cup has finally come to an end. The ICC officials have released a statement regarding the start of the mega event which is proposed to get underway from October 18th.

What has ICC stated?

The ICC officials on Monday have released a statement which read;

“In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee is monitoring the situation closely with relevant authorities and will continue to do so. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 18 October – 15 November 2020 in seven venues across Australia. We are planning for the event to go ahead as scheduled.”

It was earlier speculated to get canceled due to COVID-19 outbreak

Earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ICC was dicy over the fate of the T20 World Cup and was nearing to scrap the event off for this year. However, if things don’t get better in the near future, they might have to rethink on their decision and look to postponed it further till next year.

As of now, ICC has not revealed whether they will postpone the showcase event if the situation doesn’t get better. However, with India all set to host the 2021 T20 World Cup, the event for this year might get canceled or Australia will host it somewhere in 2022.

The Australian government is unsure about the pandemic

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian government has said the global pandemic could go on for 6 months and as of now, there is no surety on when and how things will get normal.

However, the ICC’s local organizing committee will assess the conditions before calling off the event, but as of now, the proposed schedule of October 18th till November 15th stands final.
