Former English Cricketer turned Commentator Kevin Pietersen made a huge statement by putting fellow English Cricketer Ben Stokes ahead of Virat Kohli as the ‘best cricketer in the world' at the moment.
Pietersen believes Indian captain Virat Kohli is the ‘No. 1 batsman in the world’ without a doubt. However, he thinks Ben Stokes has the edge over India’s superstar as ‘the best cricketer' owing to his all-round abilities.
While addressing England’s victory over South Africa in Cape Town, Kevin Pietersen told Betway: “Before Quinton de Kock got out, I thought the wicket looked flat. There was nothing in it.
I said on commentary that I didn’t know where the wicket was coming from, but Ben Stokes is what he is. He’s riding on the crest of a wave at the moment and long may it continue. ‘His impact massively reminds me of Andrew Flintoff. He gets the crowd going as soon as he gets hold of the ball and he brings that intensity. ‘He put the pedal down on day four with the bat and then with the ball he was outstanding. His slip catching is also exceptional.”
While asked if he doesn't consider Indian captain as ‘the best in the world' – English Great quoted “He’s absolutely the best all-round cricketer in the world. Virat Kohli is the No. 1 player. He is a freak show. But in terms of all-round capabilities, Stokes is the best.”
Ben Stokes' stocks have been on the rapid rise in recent times. After guiding England to the World Cup triumph, Ben Stokes played one od the best innings in test cricket to win the Ashes test at Headingley. Now he once again produced another exceptional performance to win England a series-levelling test game over the proteas in Capetown.
Indian Captain Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is producing masterclasses with his bat as usual and breaking the records for fun.
However, which player can keep with his performances consistently to stay on the top remains to be seen.
