West Indies players are the epitome of brute power hitting. And their captain Kieron Pollard is no different. The Windies team is right now hosting the Proteas for a 5 match T20I series. This thoroughly entertaining series is right now leveled up with both teams securing two wins from four matches. In the fourth and the latest match of the series, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard slammed three massive sixes consecutively off the bowling of South Africa’s premier pacer Kagiso Rabada.

West Indies levels the series against South Africa

Just before the start of this match, the visitors South Africa were marginally ahead of the hosts with a 2-1 lead in the 5 match T20I series. Taking into account the dominance that they showed in the 1st T20I and considering the manner in which they lost the 3rd T20I, West Indies were always expected to bounce back. South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss in Grenada and send the Windies to bat first on a wicket that holds a record for suiting teams batting first on most of the occasions.

Bavuma’s decision proved to be spot on initially as all West Indies batsmen fell one by one to turning balls of T Shamsi. It was then, that captain Polly stood up. Coming into bat at number six, he scored 51 runs from just 25 balls thereby helping his team recover from a huge batting collapse. He along with Lendl Simmons helped his side score a first-innings total of 167 and defended it in style inside the stipulated 20 overs, courtesy of an outstanding bowling display by Dwayne Bravo.

Kieron Pollard sends Rabada to the orbit

Pollard’s quickfire fifty consisted of 5 massive sixes and 2 boundaries. Out of those 5 sixes, all three came in just one over when he decided to take on Protea’s spearhead Kagiso Rabada.

The monstrous hitting happened in the 19th over of the match. Rabada, who had figures of 1-11 from the two overs that he bowled beforehand, lost his length and bowled a full toss to start his third over. Pollard swiveled it over short fine leg for a flat-six. He followed it up with another six over the deep mid-wicket region, which was once again a juicy full toss from Rabada. Understanding his mistake, he corrected his length and bowled a nasty bouncer for his third delivery. But it was not enough for the Windies captain who muscled it over deep backward square leg for yet another six, thereby completing a hattrick of sixes against one of the world’s best death bowlers.
