KKR Captain 2022

KKR Captain 2022 – Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the few teams which retained their full quota of four players. There were a few surprising omissions, but overall, they did quite a good job. Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarty were the retentions for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata Knight Riders, runners-up of last season released their 2021 skipper, Eoin Moragn and former captain, Dinesh Karthik. Moreover, even young gun, Shubman Gill was not retained by KKR ahead of the mega auction.

It will be interesting to see as to how Kolkata Knight Riders go about with the decision of handing out the armband. Out of the players they have retained, it is unlikely that any of the four players will be given the captaincy role.

Kolkata Knight Riders released Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik, who have led the franchise in the previous few seasons. Morgan led his side well in the previous edition of IPL, but just could not deliver with the bat. This is a gamble taken by the franchise as several teams will be on the look out for players who could be assigned the captaincy duties.

David Warner, Shreyas Iyer potential options for KKR

David Warner was also released by Sunrisers Hyderabad prior to the auction. The Australian was not picked up in the draft, which means he will be up for grabs in the mega auction pool. Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first ever IPL title in 2016, when he led from the front with the bat.

Shreyas Iyer, one of the most talented batsman in Indian cricket led Delhi Capitals for two full seasons, where they managed to reach the playoffs, and also ended as the runner-up in 2020. Hence, besides the likes of David Warner, even Shreyas Iyer will be on the radar of Kolkata Knight Riders.
