Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to field first. Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a very good start to their team as both openers added 115 runs in 12 odd overs for the first wicket. Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for 64 runs and after his dismissal Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni supported Faf du Plessis with their cameos and Faf’s unbeaten 95 runs helped Chennai Super Kings to post a big total of 220/3 on the board.
In reply Kolkata Knight Riders had a very poor start as Deepak Chahar ran through their top order and took 4 wickets in his first three overs and at 31/5 Knight Riders was set for a big loss but Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik counter attacked and scored 80 odd runs in next 6 overs and brought their team back into the match. Russell had completed his fifty and was looking so good but then Sam Curran dismissed him and set the match in his team’s favour. Karthik also perished for 40 runs. In the end Pat Cummins played some big shots and smashed Sam Curran for 30 runs and made the chase interesting but he didn’t get enough support from other end and his 66* runs off 34 balls knock ended in a losing cause as Knight Riders bowled out for 201 runs.
