ENGLAND DEFEATS INDIA IN THE SECOND TEST MATCH
India got defeated by England in the second test match by 159 runs at Lord’s to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series. The 29-year-old admitted the squad failed as a batting unit as they were not able to counter the conditions. Virat also praised the England side for their consistent performance throughout the game.

NOT HAPPY WITH TEAM’S PERFORMANCE: KOHLI
“I am not happy the way we played, to be honest. It’s for the first time in last five Test matches that we’ve been outplayed. All credit goes to England. They were clinical. When a team plays like that they deserve to be on the winning side. Can’t really think about those things (conditions not in favour). You have to counter the conditions as and when they come to you. Can’t crib about these things. Sometimes the rub of the green will go your way too. I won’t say that we didn’t have the best of conditions. Their bowlers were persistent with the ball, “said Kohli after the match.

The Indian squad included two spinners which probably did not work for the team. Both the spinners remained wicket-less. As a result, India failed to dismiss England in the first innings. The present Indian skipper accepted this fact that the squad did not have a good mix keeping the pitch conditions in mind.

“I think we got the combination a bit off before the game. A chance to correct that next game. Five days to go should be okay,” Virat added.

The captain even went off the field for some time with a lower back issue during Day three and four. But he said he will recover soon ahead of the third Test.

MY INJURY WILL GET FINE IN A FIVE DAYS’ TIME: KOHLI
“Lower back issue coming up again and again, purely because of the workload, but I am confident I’ll be fine in five days’ time,” the Indian skipper said.

The third Test between India and England will be played at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham from August 18.
