Kohli to face BCCI questioning

By Christopher Paul

After two back to back loses the Indian team, its captain and coach are now under fire. The main reason being their lack of fight and quick surrender to their English hosts. This has left many fans disappointed and critics puzzled. At the moment all eyes are on the third match, will India make a comeback?

If the team loses the third match then Captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri will have to face questions from the BCCI. At this point, the Indian team is 0-2 against the English. Depending on the third match the team for the fourth and fifth match will be selected. The third match will also determine if the Captain and coach will face the BCCI questions.

A senior BCCI official whose name was hidden for anonymity reasons had the following to say. “The Indian team can’t complain that they were not given enough time to prepare. When we lost the South Africa series, the players spoke about tight scheduling and lack of practice games. It was after speaking to them that we decided that white ball matches will be held before the Tests.”

Many believe the third match will determine if Kohli and Shastri will continue to have their unlimited power over the team. “Don’t forget under Shastri and current support staff, we have lost major Test series in Australia (0-2 in 2014-15), South Africa (1-2 in 2017-18). Now we are in dire straits in England.” The senior added, hinting at the BCCI having their eyes on Shastri.

Other reports indicate at the BCCI having an eye on the batting coach and fielding coach as well. Depending on how Indian performs in the third, fourth and fifth match, their performance may be evaluated also.

The officer also added “If you remember, BCCI removed Duncan Fletcher’s assistants Joe Dawes (bowling coach) and Trevor Penny (fielding coach) after India lost the Test series 1-3 in England. Shastri became the director along with Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar, and Bharat Arun joining the support staff before the ODI series.”
