Australian fans have a special relationship with Indian captain Virat Kohli. The Indian cricketer has been booed on a couple of occasions during this ongoing Test series and the tradition continued in SCG as well. However, former Aussie captain, Ricky Ponting is disappointed with the crowd’s behavior and has asked them to show some respect.

Kohli booed at the SCG

The incident happened on the first day of the fourth Test. After the fall of Mayank Agarwal, the Indian captain walked in to bat and received a mix response. The Indian fans in the crowd chanted the name Kohli as the India skipper arrived at the crease while some Aussie fans booed the Indian cricketer.

This is not the first instance as at Perth too the Indian captain was booed by a section of fans in the stadium.

Ricky Ponting disappointed, wants fans to show more respect

The Indian captain or the Indian team didn’t give any reaction to this behavior by the Aussie fans but former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting is certainly disappointed. He expressed his dissent while speaking with an Australian media outlet.

He stated that if it was booing then it’s absolutely disgraceful. He pointed out that he had said that in the Perth Test as well and he wants the fans to show some respect.

Travis Head is who part of the current Aussie team, had shown his dissent as well when some fans booed Kohli at Perth. He had said that Kohli is a pretty good player and probably doesn’t deserve to be booed but that’s how it is. He had noted that it is probably not needed but that’s the crowd.

Kohli: Always in the limelight

The Indian captain had a similar reception at Edgbaston earlier this year. During the 2011/12 tour of Australia, the crowd at Sydney had booed Kohli and the Indian player responded by showing the middle finger. He was fined 50% of his match fees for this behavior.
