Why is Nehal Wadhera not playing LSG vs MI IPL 2023 match?

Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are squaring off against each other in the Eliminator of Tata IPL 2023. It is a must-win game for both sides as the loser will be eliminated from the edition. Both MI and LSG made quite a few changes to their eleven and MI have made an interesting change in the form of dropping Punjab’s left-hander Nehal Wadhera.

LSG vs MI IPL 2023: Why is Nehal Wadhera Not Playing Today’s Match IPL?

In what seems to be a surprising call from MI team management, they have dropped left-hand batter Nehal Wadhera from the eleven. Nehal had a decent show this season but as Tilak Varma has recovered from his injury, the latter has replaced Wadhera in the eleven. Varma has been a seasoned campaigner for MI in 2022 and done pretty well in 2023 as well. Wadhera, however, is among the subs and could get into the eleven as Impact Player if MI batting flattens at any stage of the first innings. Here’s what Rohit Sharma said at the toss,

“We are going to bat first. Typical Chennai wicket, looks good at the moment, don’t know how much wear and tear will happen. Back in Mumbai we want to chase, this ground here with a longer boundary, it’s better to put up a score. The boys are upbeat about it, we have qualified and we are here. There have been ups and downs, but we have learnt a lot, and learnt what we can do as a team. We are ready for this game. We have one change, Kartikeya is out, Shokeen is in.”
