Royal Challengers Bangalore are in Lucknow to take on the home team Lucknow Super Giants in match no 43 of Tata IPL. The RCB team has made quite a few changes to the eleven and one of those change is the surprise omission of key seamer Harshal Patel.
In what comes as a huge surprise, Harshal Patel has not been included in the starting eleven of the Royal Challengers team. While RCB is currently batting, Harshal remains on the substitutes’ bench. However, this also means that Harshal could feature as an impact player in the second innings if RCB decides to include him when they come to bowl. Here’s what Royal Challengers’ skipper Faf du Plessis said at the toss,
“We are gonna have a bat. There will be little more turn in the second innings I feel. I feel much better now. We got Hazlewood in tonight, and Anuj comes in for Shahbaz. Our squad is well-suited for these conditions. It is just about batting well tonight.“

Indian seam bowler Harshal Patel, popularly known as Purple Patel, was reacquired by RCB for a whopping ₹10.75 crore ahead of the 2023 IPL Mega Auction. In the previous tournament held in 2021, he had claimed 32 wickets and won the Purple Cap. Both RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad competed fiercely for his services at the auction, but RCB emerged victorious. It is noteworthy that Harshal had previously played for RCB in the IPL 2021 season, having been traded from the Delhi Capitals.
