Mandhana’s Maiden T20 Ton:
Smriti Mandhana smashed 102 runs off 61 balls to continue her dream run in the KIA Super League to guide Western Storm to victory against Lancashire Thunder on Friday.
Smriti Mandhana had earlier slammed the joint-fastest fifty in women’s T20s earlier in the league and now she has become the highest scorer in the tournament so far. Mandhana is the highest run scorer of the tournament so far with 282 runs followed by Amy Satterthwaite with 171 runs.
This blistering century against the Thunders was Mandhana’s maiden T20 ton even as she has registered five half-centuries in T20 Internationals.
She is now only the second woman after Mithali Raj to score a T20 hundred.
Defending champions Western Storm outplayed Thunders by seven wickets to climb to the top spot of the points table.
Western Storms came down to chase 154 runs after the Thunders scored 153/7 in their allocated 20 overs, with Sattherhwaite being their highest scorer with 85.
Elanor Threlkeld’s cameo of 15 runs off 16 deliveries helped Lancashire Thunder cross the 150 mark.
Anya Shrubsole returned with the figures of 3/36 for Western Storms.
In reply, Western Storm suffered an early blow as Rachel Priest got dismissed after scoring 5 runs.
Mandhana then took the reins in her hands played a blistering knock to help her side clinch a win.
Skipper Heather Knight got dismissed for 8 runs off 11 deliveries in 5.3 overs but Mandhana held her wicket firm from there on to score 33 off 18 balls.
Mandhana eventually lost her first wicket in 18.2 overs with two runs left to win the match.
Notably, her national teammate, Harmanpreet Kaur failed to open her account and collected a duck in the match.
Mandhana has scored 48,37, 52*, 43* and 102 in the tournament so far and now Western Storm and Lightning hold a six-point advantage over third-placed Thunder at the halfway point of the group stage.
