Meet the new ‘most successful Test cricket fast bowler’

The record till now

Glenn McGrath, the former Australian cricketer held the title of the most successful fast bowler of all time. He held the title as he had an incredible 563 wickets to his name. During the England vs India Test match, there was one name coming up as a worthy competitor for the title and that was James Anderson. And during the final match against India at the Oval, James Anderson became the most successful fast bowler after he took the wicket of Mohammed Shami making it his 564^th Test wicket.

Anderson’s career so far

Anderson had made his Test Cricket debut in 2003. He since then has played 143 Test for England. Anderson currently holds the record of the most wickets taken for England in both ODI and Test Cricket. He is also the only English bowler to pass the 500 Test wickets.

The list now is James Anderson at the first spot with McGrath at the second. The third place has West Indies bowler Courtney Walsh with 519 wickets to his name. Anderon’s partner and fast bowler Stuart Broad is fifth on that list with 432 wickets.

Naturally breaking such a huge record made Anderson a bit emotional. It is reported that he said he was trying not to cry as this was a special achievement for him and something he was aiming for. He also added that it was an amazing job to be playing for England.

The final match in the series

The fifth and final match of the five-match series saw the English team dominate the visitors. They were able to beat India with a 118 run victory leaving the score 4-1. The only breathing chance India got throughout this series was at Trent Bridge during the 3^rd test match that saw team India win by 203 runs. With the score at 4-1 in the host’s favor, the English team was undoubtedly the better team throughout the series.
