After India’s loss at the Oval at the hands of their hosts, many thought this would harm India’s overall rank in the ICC Test Team Ranking, but it hasn’t. India is still #1 on the ranking list while the winners of the series England is at #4.
The loss of the series did do some harm as the team lead by captain Virat started the series at 125 points and is now 115 points after the loss.
The series started with India losing both the first and second match. Hope was seen after they made a huge 203 run win during the 3rd test match. With the score being 2-1, many were hoping for India to level the scored during the 4th Test match. Team India, unfortunately, lost that match by 60 runs which resulted in England winning the five-match series 3-1. The final Test match was also won by England with 118 runs which left the score 4-1 for the hosts.
England started this series with 97 points being in the fifth position in the ranking list. Winning this series against the top team India resulted in team England gaining eight points. England now holds a total of 105 points and have surpassed New Zealand.
England is currently just one point behind South Africa and Australia. Both teams are at a tie with 106 points. South Africa is ahead by just a marginal number of points. New Zealand is not far behind with 102 points.
