Karnataka opening batsman Mayank Agarwal who got selected in India’s squad for the West Indies Test series said that his mother wasn’t able to control her emotions after hearing the news of his selection.
Agarwal was speaking with a newspaper after BCCI announced the Test squad. He admitted that he knew the news beforehand but he was still waiting for the confirmation.
He said that he switched on news channel and saw it on TV. He admitted that it felt good but also noted that the problem is that his phone has not stopped ringing. He also stated that after the news broke out, he spoke to his parents and his mother wasn’t able to control her emotions.
The opening batsman revealed that the coach of Board’s President XI, Abhay Sharma had told him earlier about his selection but he waited for a confirmation.
The 27-year-old said that he is looking forward to the Test series.
Agarwal said that he also called up Karnataka captain Vinay Kumar to thank him for backing him when he was about to be dropped from the Ranji team a few years ago. Agarwal reminded that in the next game, he scored 300-odd runs and has not looked back since.
