Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the quickest to reach the milestone of 10000 ODI runs in the second ODI against Windies and he has admitted that he never thought of achieving this feat. He also made it clear that the team comes first.
BCCI posted a video of the Indian captain on Twitter in which he expresses his feelings after breaching the barrier of 10000 ODI runs.
In the video, the right-hand batsman says that he never thought of achieving this feat or get to this stage, he always thought he wants to play for India. He admitted that he never thought this day would arrive.
Kohl noted that his duty is to score runs and having done that for a long period, everything has collected together for this moment but his intention has been to score as many runs as possible.
Along with his immense appetite to score runs, what makes Kohli stand apart from other cricketers is his unbelievable fitness. Speaking about this, the Indian skipper said that he has been able to push his physical and mental abilities by just focusing on what team needs and in that process more runs would have been scored than maybe he would have otherwise.
He explained that he has just focused on the situation and he is glad that he has been able to help the team contributing with the bat. Kohli believes that it is about what the team needs, what the situation demands.
Virat stated that it is a great honor to represent the country and even after playing for 10 years, he doesn’t feel like he is entitled to anything. He made it clear that you still have to work hard for every single run you score at the international level.
The Indian batsman further added that as a player you are focused on the process and pushing hard for the team when you are down and out, pushing those 10-12 extra overs so that the team can benefit from it and the runs become more anyway.
