KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, pivotal elements of India’s ODI middle order in recent years, have been undergoing recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) following injuries. The cricketing community eagerly awaits their return.
A recent match simulation exercise at the NCA showcased both Rahul and Iyer batting together, bolstering hopes. Iyer’s participation in a practice game, encompassing fielding for 50 overs and batting for 38, hints at his proximity to full fitness.
In Rahul and Iyer’s absence, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav emerged as consistent performers in ODIs. While Samson boasts an impressive average of 55, Yadav’s prowess in the T20 format has garnered trust within the team management.
Tilak Varma’s inclusion also made headlines, given his impactful debut in T20Is and all-round capabilities.
As per Asia Cup regulations, teams can opt for 17-player squads. Correspondingly, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal have already announced their 17-member squads for the event.
