He noted that someone like Prithvi Shaw for instance — everyone is already talking about how he is going to do on bouncier wickets but the Windies batsman believes that Shaw has the inner mental strength that holds a player in good stead.
Lara explained that a player’s technique will adapt to the conditions if the player is mentally strong, without that, he will fail.
The former Windies batsman revealed that he saw Shaw batting against the Windies quicks who were bowling at speeds in excess of 140 and he feels the Indian opener looked pretty solid.
At the same time he made it clear that if Shaw doesn’t have a good tour Down Under, it doesn’t mean he won’t have a good career.
Lara was asked how athletes motivated themselves to keep going when they hit a purple patch. To this, the Windies batsman replied by citing example of Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

He said that Kohli is ticking all the right boxes and it looks like he is never going to experience fatigue.
Lara believes that if Kohli does run out of steam, he can always take a break, like he has done with the T20 series against West Indies.
The left-hand batsman believes that Kohli’s numbers are mainly because of his focus and he noted that Virat is not shying away from any challenge. And that’s important for any young player.
According to Lara, a player like that, with his passion and commitment, has shown that he can excel at things outside his comfort zone.
