Former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly feels that the Indian team management still has a lot to think about in terms of team combination and believes that KL Rahul shouldn’t be sitting out. He also stressed on the fact that the middle-order needs to be given a good look before it is too late.
In a column written for an English newspaper, Ganguly said that in the ongoing ODI series between India and Windies, the hosts have a lot to think about. The left-hand batsman still believes that Lokesh Rahul shouldn’t be sitting out. He wrote that the middle-order desperately needs to be given a good look and he is afraid that the selectors are leaving it too late.
The former Indian cricketer feels that Jasprit Bumrah has once again shown he is different but he makes it clear that one has to take note of the unit as a whole because in three matches the opponents have scored more than 900 runs and that too in Indian conditions.
KL Rahul has been marred with inconsistencies since he scored a hundred in his debut ODI. He has scored only one half-century in his last nine ODI innings and that too in his last ODI which was against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.
Team India is currently offering an extended run to Ambati Rayudu at the number four position which means Rahul has to warm the benches.
At the same time, Ganguly was full of praise for Windies and their skipper. He noted that what the Windies missed out on by a whisker at Vizag was achieved by them at Pune. He feels that it was indeed an impressive victory by Jason Holder and his boys and he believes that they have really put up a very impressive show in limited-overs.
He added that Holder has been impressive with his leadership abilities and the likes of Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, and Ashley Nurse have indicated that all is not down in the dumps for Caribbean cricket.
