The bond between MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina is no secret. Fondly called as ‘Thala’ and ‘Chinna Thala’ respectively by CSK fans, Raina had made sure that he lived upto the expectations of his captain while playing for India and for CSK. Recently Yuvraj Singh commented that Raina was the favourite player of MS Dhoni while he was the captain. Raina had responded to that comment in his recent interview.
MS backed me says Raina
Suresh Raina has played most of his career under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Raina said that Dhoni backed him a lot during the tough times and he in return also made sure that he rarely disappointed his captain. They have always been teammates, even in the lucrative Indian Premier League they represent the same franchise.
“I would say MS definitely supported me, he supported me because he knew I have talent, I’ve done it for him, CSK and Team India, whenever he supported me. The best part about him is that he will tell you after two games, ‘If you don’t score, I’ve to take a big step.’ I said just give me one or two games, I will make sure not to repeat mistakes,” Raina said while speaking to Fancode.
Tough to bat in middle order
The Uttar Pradesh born southpaw stressed on the difficulties faced by a middle-order batsman. He has mostly batted at five or six in international cricket and stated that middle-order batsmen have to adjust to various situations during a game.
“You know, middle-order isn’t easy, every game you play sometimes you bat for 10-15 overs and sometimes for 30 overs. Our position is different and we’ve to chip in with the ball, we’ve to get 2-3 wickets and we’ve to save 15-20 runs. Middle-order has always been challenging for me, but, I’ve always taken everything positively,” Raina added.
The 33 year old who is coming back from an injury thanked the former Indian captain MS Dhoni for all his suport and even named him the best captain to have ever led India after Sourav Ganguly.
