Sakshi Dhoni quashes rumours of MS Dhoni’s retirement

Speculations over India’s World cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement have been making the waves ever since the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League was indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

On Wednesday, #Dhoniretires started trending on the micro-blogging website Twitter, and cricket fans from around the world were confused regarding the same as there was no official news from Dhoni or BCCI regarding this. Distressed with the trend Dhoni’s wife took to twitter to clarify this for the general public.

MS Dhoni last played for India in the World Cup 2019 semifinal clash against New Zealand, where India faced a heartbreaking defeat and were ousted from the tournament. Dhoni was criticized heavily for one of his knocks in that world cup in a game against England. Some of the fans even criticized him for the semifinal defeat. But as a matter of fact, the 1.25 billion people had hopes of winning as long as he was in the crease.

After that Dhoni took a sabbatical from Indian cricket and did not make himself available for selection. He was set to make his return during the lucrative Indian Premier League which was postponed due to Covid-19.

Fans get emotional

Postponement of IPL 2020 has made some of the fans believe that his retirement was on the cards and out of nowhere started a #DhoniRetires trend on twitter.

He enjoys huge fan base around the world. But as a matter of fact his haters stack up to pretty good numbers as well. 

Soon, a sea of nostalgia and emotions gripped Dhoni’s fans and they started posting photos and videos of the former captain on Twitter. Meanwhile, his haters shared memes on Dhoni.

Sakshi clarifies the confusion

MS Dhoni’s beloved wife, unlike her husband is a very active person on social media. As things started to go out of hand, she took to twitter to clarify the confusion. She said that it was just a rumour and further shut down the haters by saying that lockdown has made them mentally unstable.

She seemed deeply distressed about that trend and tweeted:

“Its only rumours ! I understand Lockdown has made people mentally unstable ! #DhoniRetires .. Get a life !”

Dhoni’s IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings also tweeted regarding the same with the hashtag #DhoniNeverTires and shared some of the glorious memories of their 2018 comeback win.

2 years ago on this day, they came back from 2 year suspension to win their 3rd IPL trophy.
