Shahbaz Nadeem shares MS Dhoni’s hilarious advice to get rid of Chris Gayle

There is absolutely no doubt regarding the fact that the former Indian captain MS Dhoni is one of the sharpest cricket brains to have ever played the game. Being one of the most successful captains in international cricket, he was always on point with his judgment. Time in and time out he can be seen guiding the bowlers from behind the stumps. In his latest interview with Aakash Chopra, Shahbaz Nadeem talked through an incident where Dhoni gave him hilarious advice to dismiss the ‘Universe Boss’, Chris Gayle.

Shahbaz Nadeem wanted to dismiss Chris Gayle

The West Indian opening batsman ‘Christopher Henry Gayle’ has to be one of the most intimidating batsmen to have ever played the shortest format of the game. Bowlers often found it very difficult to bowl to him. His powerful aggressive batting style was too good for domestic Indian bowlers who bowled to him in the Indian Premier League.

Shahbaz Nadeem was no different. The fact that he was a left-arm spinner made the things all the more difficult for him. Naturally, left-handed batsmen have had an upper hand against left-arm spinners. So it was quite obvious that he wanted to have a clear cut plan to dismiss the dangerous Jamaican.

In a move to outplay Gayle, Nadeem started practicing ‘Chinaman' bowling during 2017. It was during this time that the former India skipper MS Dhoni joined the Jharkhand team for the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy, left-arm spinner wasted no time and used the opportunity to take some tips from him.

In his latest interview with Aakash Chopra, Nadeem revealed that he used that opportunity to ask the Indian veteran on how to dismiss Chris Gayle. In reply, MS Dhoni had hilariously told him:

“The first thing is never bowl to Gayle.”

Nadeem then went on to reveal captain cool’s valuable advice. He stated that Dhoni asked him to keep the ball close to Gayle’s body so that he finds it difficult to hit the big shots. The spinner further added that he even asked him whether it would be a good option to bowl ‘Chinaman’ against Gayle. In reply, Dhoni told him to go ahead with the plan only if can execute it perfectly. Interestingly he bowled Chinaman to Gayle in IPL 2017 and managed to dismiss him.
