The Chennai Super Kings were pitted against the top-placed Sunrisers for the Qualifier 1 in the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Yellow-clad Wankhede was hoping for yet another CSK win and that’s exactly what they got.
In one of the most dramatic turnarounds of the season, Chennai Super Kings seized victory from the jaws of defeat and earned a direct pass to the VIVO IPL 2018 Final by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad.
But two heroes who emerged after the head-turning victory were Faf du Plessis and Shardul Thakur. Thakur played a knock of 15 not out off just five balls. And, Shardul has credited Dhoni’s last-minute batting tips for his brilliance on the field.
Dhoni told me to play every ball according to its merit, I followed the advice and luckily it worked for us. He also praised his skipper saying that he never makes any decision in haste.
Notably, Shardul Thakur is a bowler but he has also done wonders with the bat in the past. He had hit six sixes in an over while playing for his school.
He matched the record which was then held by Gary Sobers of the West Indies and Ravi Shastri, India. While playing for the Chennai Super Kings, Thakur has taken 15 scalps in 12 innings at an economy rate of 9.16 this season thus far.
