MS Dhoni’s future in cricket had been the topic of discussion over the past few months. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has been on a sabbatical since the 2019 World Cup semi-final after which most of the cricket lovers thought that he would sign off from the game.

A few days ago when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the annual central contract, there was no mention of Dhoni. Thus, as usual, rumors began to spread that the 38-year-old is slowly stepping aside from the game, even #ThankyouDhoni was trending that day. However, a few hours later it was revealed that Dhoni has resumed training with the Jharkhand side.

MS will play for CSK in 2021 as well

In an event, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) owner N Srinivasan has confirmed that their captain is not going anywhere in the IPL and will play for the Super Kings because he will be retained back by the Yellow Brigade in IPL 2021 auction as well.

Speaking at an event, Srinivasan stated, “MS Dhoni will play this year. And next year he will be in the auction and he will be retained.”

Srinivasan’s statement came in as a sigh of relief for the CSK fans. Dhoni is worshiped similar to a god by cricket fans in Tamil Nadu. This statement by Srinivasan hence is a sigh of relief for these die-hard MSD fans.

As per Srinivasan, Dhoni will be in the auction next year, so it means other teams will have a slight chance of getting him. But it is not likely to occur considering the RTM option available for CSK.

Most successful IPL captain

Under Dhoni, CSK has reached the semi’s in all the edition of the IPL that it had been part of. Overall, the Chennai based franchise has won the league thrice and missed out on their fourth title in the last edition, in 2019, by a whisker when they lost by a run versus arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the final in Hyderabad.

With Dhoni to remain in the scheme of things, CSK will rely on the same tactics before trying to build a side for the future to maintain its dominance in the cash-rich league.

This news will surely bring in headaches to other teams and their fans who thought this IPL season would be Dhoni’s last one.
