Surprise and delight: Mixed reactions on Twitter as Shardul Thakur debuts

Shardul Thakur the 294th player to represent India in Test cricket 

Pace bowler Shardul Thakur made his Test debut in the second Test between India and Windies at Hyderabad. The young bowler became the 294th player to represent India in Tests. It was, of course, a big moment for the pacer as he was in the Indian squad for some time and was finally rewarded for his patience and consistency.

Just before the match started, Ravi Shastri the coach of Team India presented the pace bowler the India Test cap.

However, Thakur’s selection didn’t go well with Twitterati and several fans expressed their surprise through tweets. But at the same time, plenty of fans were delighted to see the pacer getting a Test cap.

Fans surprised to see Thakur in the Test team

The Mumbai pacer has 188 wickets in first-class cricket and has featured in more than 50 first-class games. He delivered impressive performance in the IPL as well.

He has also played five ODIs and seven T20Is and has bagged six and eight wickets respectively. Despite his success in domestic cricket, some fans felt that he shouldn’t be getting a Test cap.

A lot of fans felt that Mohammad Siraj who is also in the Test squad should have been preferred over the Mumbai pacer.

Fans defend Thakur’s selection in Tthe est team 

But at the same time, several fans defended the selection of the right-arm pacer in the team. There were tweets congratulating the pacer and also for appreciating his hard work, skills, and abilities.

However, Thakur’s Test career started on a bad note as he was injured after bowling only ten deliveries. He had to leave the leave the field as well due to the injury.
