IPL Auction 2021 Top 10 buys IPL 2021 auction

IPL Auction 2021 is done and dusted and there were several steals to go with some buys which were hard to understand. In fact, there were even some biddings from teams which were funny to say the least. RCB bidding for Chris Morris upto almost 10 crores after releasing him to free up the same amount was one of the things that was hard to decrypt. Let’s take a look at the top 10 buys at IPL 2021 Auction

10. Sam Billings

The English wicket-keeper was in red hot form off late for both England and in BBL for Sydney Thunder. To everybody’s surprise, the dynamic wicket keeper batsman went unsold in the first round of auction only to be picked by Delhi Capitals in the accelerated auction later in the day for base price of 2c.IPL 2021 TOP 10 BUYS AUCTION

It qualifies as a top buy considering the requirement that DC had for an overseas wicket-keeper after releasing Alex Carey. They suffered a lot in the previous edition of IPL when Rishabh Pant was injured which forced them to play Alex Carey who was clearly not equipped to play at the IPL level. Sam Billings will be a perfect addition to a strong Delhi Capitals squad.

9. Shakib Al Hasan

The veteran Bangladeshi all rounder was grabbed by Kolkata Knight Riders for a decent amount of 3.20 crores. KKR started the initial bidding and then KXIP seemed to be interested in the all-rounder for a while but KKR won the bidding race in the end.

Shakib Al Hasan has 2 IPL trophies under his kitty and is an experienced campaigner who brings a lot of flexibility to that KKR squad. From the looks of it, it is observed that Shakib Al Hasan is the replacement for Sunil Narine.

8. Vishnu Vinod

It was expected that the Kerala wicket-keeper batsman would start a bidding war between teams prior to the auction but Delhi Capitals stole the dynamic middle order batsman for a base price of 20 Lakhs which sent shocking waves among fans.

Top 10 costliest Buys in IPL Auction History

Vishnu Vinod is a wicket-keeper and is a terrific six hitter and his 29 sixes (highest in the tournament) in the 2019 VHT is an evidence to his six hitting skills. He is a left hand batsman which is an added advantage by itself. Delhi Capitals have found a potential replacement for Rishabh Pant and it is surely one of the top 10 buys at this auction.

7. Shivam Dube

The all rounder was released by RCB and because of the limited options that were on offer in this auction, it was anticipated that Shivam Dube would fetch decent amount and he did fetch handsome amount of 4.40 crores from Rajasthan Royals.

He solves a lot of problems to many teams and to a team like RR, he sits perfectly at #4 spot in the batting order and being the southpaw he is sure to add variety to that RR batting lineup. He can also contribute with the ball with some handy medium pace bowling if needed. He is one of the top buys at the auction.

6. Adam Milne

Mumbai Indians is one franchise that traditionally loves overseas fast bowlers and it was them who started the trend to play 2 overseas fast bowlers in the playing 11 regularly. They released Nathan Coulter-Nile ahead of the auction and they were bound to buy overseas fast bowlers and buying Adam Milne turned out to be an icing on the cake.

Adam Milne is a terrific defensive bowler in the powerplay and they already have Trent Boult who was majestic with the new ball in IPL 2020. Also MI managed to bag Adam Milne for just 3.20 crores which easily qualifies as a top quality buy. Adam Milne gives just 7.45 runs at death in T20s since 2016.

5. Fabian Allen

It has to be said that the worth of Fabian Allen is still being underestimated by the all the teams. He is one of the upcoming potentials in world cricket in white ball and he showed massive glimpse of potential in the opportunities that he has got so far.

He was picked by SRH in IPL2020 but was released by them without giving him a debut and was pocketed by PBKS for just 75 Lakhs which is nothing but a steal. He offers defensive left arm orthodox bowling to go with ferocious hitting lower down the order.

4. Krishnappa Gowtham

MS Dhoni loves spinners and he toys with the opposition teams’s plans by having all types of spinners under his disposal. In IPL 2020, he missed a quality off spinner but in IPL 2021 he will have Gowtham with whom, MS Dhoni can use his bowlers according to opposition batsmen.

Though, they gave a whopping 9.25 crores to fetch him, he adds a lot of flexibility to that CSK line up as an all rounder. With Krishnappa Gowtham, CSK have all types of spinners under their rank.

3. Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali was terribly underused by RCB in IPL 2020 and they released him as well but CSK realized what Moeen Ali brings to the table and grabbed him for 7 crore rupees which is a massive pick for various reasons.

Moeen Ali is one of the best spin power hitters in T20 cricket and he can be used at #4 by CSK where his entry point would be around 8 to 12 over mark where spinners would be operating which would favor Moeen Ali’s batting style. The Englishman is also a quality off spinner which makes him a complete package.

2. Jhye Richardson

Punjab Kings came into the auction with a lot of money left and they spent it on right guys to say the least. They needed a gun overseas pacer to partner Mohammad Shami and they fetched him for 14 crore rupees.

Though, Jhye Richardson has played only 9 T20Is for Australia, his recent BBL reason has caught the eyes of all the franchise. He finished as the leading wicket taker with 29 wickets and was mighty impressive in all the phases of the game. He is one of the top 2 buys at this auction.

1. Chris Morris

He was the #1 death bowler in this auction and he went for a mind-boggling 16.25 crores which makes him the costliest player to be ever bought in an IPL auction history. He was picked by Rajasthan Royals and he will make a massive difference to that RR setup.

He will share the bowling workload with Jofra Archer who was left all alone in the fast bowling department in IPL 2020. With the addition of Chris Morris, Rajasthan Royals’s bowling attack looks like Jofra Archer, Chris Morris, Kartik Tyagi, Shreyas Gopal, Rahul Tewatia and Ben Stokes. This bowling attack is easily the best bowling attack behind Delhi and Mumbai.
