2019 is about to end and it has been a year with few ups and downs for Team India in ODI cricket. they won against Australia and New Zealand touring them, while lost to Australia while hosting them.

Also won against West Indies in two bilateral series, while the 2019 world cup semi-final lost still hurts many Indian fans. After having such an eventful year, here we look at the top 5 ODI performances by Indian players this year:

Shikhar Dhawan – India vs Australia, Match 14,  ICC CWC 2019 

Dhawan’s love for the Aussies and ICC tournaments continued as he scored another ton against them. The southpaw scored 117 runs off 109 which included 16 fours.

Batting first India scored 352-5 with the help of Dhawan’s century and half-centuries from Rohit and Virat. later, India won the match by 36 runs with Dhawan being the man of the match.

Virat Kohli – 2nd ODI, Australia tour of India 2019

Another Virat Kohli masterclass. batting first on a sluggish pitch India lost Rohit Sharma for a duck in the first over of the match.

Wickets kept tumbling on the other end but Virat kept on playing and scored 116 from 120 deliveries including 10 fours. thanks to his ton India scored a total of 250 and eventually won the match by 8 runs.

Mohammed Shami – India vs Afghanistan, Match 28, ICC CWC 2019

India scored a low total of 224-8 on a slow track with half-centuries from Kohli and Jadhav. Afghanistan despite losing few early wickets but were cruising towards an upset with Nabi leading the charge with 52 runs.

With 15 needed off the last over and after conceding a boundary on the first ball, Shami took the wickets of Nabi, Aftab Alam, and Mujeeb in consecutive deliveries to become only the 2nd Indian after Chetan Sharma to take a world cup hat trick and India won the match by 11 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal – 3rd ODI, India tour of Australia 2018-2019

Series decider. India opted to bowl after winning the toss. Australia was in a good position with Marsh and Handscomb batting well. Then came Yuzvendra Chahal and just went through the Australian batting lineup recording his career-best figures of 6/42 in 10 overs.

Thanks to his 6-for Australia managed to score only 230 runs which India chased down easily with 7 wickets remaining.

Rohit Sharma – India vs Pakistan, Match 22, ICC CWC 2019

The best rivalry in cricket history. Two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan go face to face. Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion scoring 140 off 113 balls which included 14 fours and 3 sixes.

Batting first India scored 336-5 of their 50 overs. Rahul and Virat also scored half-centuries but the main highlight was Rohit’s century. He was toying with Pakistani bowlers.

Thanks to his ton, India won the match comprehensively by 89 runs and continued their winning streak against Pakistan in the World Cup (7-0).
