The return

South Africa announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s World T20 starting from November 9th, to be held in West Indies. Most of the team remained the same as the team that played in the Caribbean recently.

However, Shabnam Ismail the pace bowler and Trisha Chetty, the wicket-keeper will be returning to the team. They missed out on the Caribbean series, Ismail due to personal reasons and Chetty due to a back injury. The fast bowler Ayabonga Khaka was unable to recover from her shoulder injury and was not considered for selection.

On Tuesday at a press conference, Thabang Moroe, CSA chief executive wished the team luck and reminded that this team had reached the semi-final in 2014 in Bangladesh and in last year’s World Cup in England, they had “come agonizingly close” to reaching the finals. Moroe stated that this time the team was pumped and ready to get into the final stages.

The squad

This team’s last venture was against West Indies where both the ODIs and the T20 ended in a draw. This should have given enough confidence to the team, Moroe said.

However, ICC suspended off-spinner Raisibe Ntozakhe for a bowling action which they deemed illegal. CSA must now pick a replacement player. South Africa is part of Group A alongside Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh, and West Indies.
