India A team coach Rahul Dravid has said that the objective of the A tour to New Zealand is to prepare the players for the Australia series and he feels that by organizing such tours they can give the boys a better chance to prepare for an international series.
The India A team will play three Tests and one white-ball game in New Zealand. The team includes senior players such as Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane.
Speaking about this A tour, the coach Rahul Dravid said that it will be a very good opportunity for some of the boys who are requested by the senior team management to be a part of the A tour.
The former India cricketer noted that the players will be able to gain some match-time experience even if the conditions are not going to be exactly the same or it is not like being in Australia. He feels that the A team format is pretty competitive and it is a match-time experience. Hence he believes that it is a good opportunity in the lead up to international tours.
According to the former right-hand batsman, from Indian cricket’s perspective, by organizing these tours, they can give the boys a better chance to prepare for an international series.
He also noted that it is exciting to have the senior boys with the team and he revealed that the objective for them is to prepare them for Australia. At the same time, he pointed out that the younger boys get an opportunity to share the dressing room with them.
The former India captain also noted that India has been playing good white-ball cricket and is building a bench strength. He made it clear that the IPL helps in that department.
He admitted that India has struggled in overseas but made it clear that they are working on this issue. He explained that they have increased the number of Test matches and are trying to increase the amount of red-ball cricket that their boys can get to experience.
