Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant’s aggressive batting style has earned him plenty of runs but the same approach brought his downfall in the second innings against Australia. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon thrived on Pant’s over-aggressive intent and dismissed him after getting hit for 4,4,4,6.

Ambitious Pant takes on Nathan Lyon

Courtesy of Pujara and Rahane’s gritty batting India had a sizeable lead on the fourth day of the Adelaide Test. But two quick wickets created panic in the Indian camp and the team suddenly decided to up the ante.

Rishabh Pant took the responsibility on his shoulders and made a brave call to go after Lyon, Australia’s most potent weapon.

On a fourth day wicket with plenty of wear, Pant decided to attack Lyon’s accurate and canny off-spin.

Pant smashes Lyon for three fours and one six in four balls

In the 96th over of the innings, the left-hander  stepped out and smashed Lyon for a four over mid-wicket boundary. He repeated the same stroke on the next ball as there was no one patrolling the deep mid-wicket region.

The Indian batsman took on the long-on fielder on the next ball and scored his third consecutive four. However, the best of the lot was his shot on the fifth ball which sent the ball in the mid-wicket stands.

The left-hander had now smashed three fours and one six in four balls and had scored 18 runs in the over.

Lyon overpowers Pant in the little battle

But the youngster failed to curb his aggression and Lyon took advantage of it. The off-spinner bowled the final ball of the over wide of the off-stump and at a slower pace. It forced the left-hander to reach for the ball and in the end he miscued the stroke.

Harris standing at deep covers took the catch and Lyon had the last laugh in this short tussle.
