Everything seems to be going Multan Sultans' way in the Pakistan Super League 2020. In every match, some player turns up as a hero and helps Multan to victory. On Sunday, Multan found a new hero in James Vince. The right-handed batsman from England played a superb knock of 61 runs from just 24 balls to ensure Multan seal a spot in the Playoffs. During this innings, James Vince hit five back-to-back fours in one over.
The incident happened in the second over of Multan's chase during their match against Islamabad United in Rawalpindi. Akif Javed, the young pacer had just come on to bowl his first over of the day but it was also his last as well. The first ball of the over from the left-arm pacer had gone towards the mid-wicket region for a boundary and it kept getting worse, ball after ball. The plan to attack the young pacer early on worked brilliantly for Vince as it set the tone for what was to be a brilliant chase in the end. Watch the video here:
Vince's five back-to-back boundaries broke whatever momentum Islamabad had going into the run chase. Vince also ensured that even after the loss of one wicket Multan didn't stumble in a tough run chase against the United. Multan was set a target of 92 to win from 9 overs in a match which was reduced due to rain. James Vince's innings of 61 included 11 fours and one six and his strike rate was of 254. His knock ensured that Multan was able to chase down the total in just the seventh over with 14 balls to spare.
With this win, Multan Sultans have sealed the spot in the Playoffs of the PSL 2020. Led by Shan Maqsood, Sultans have played seven games in this tournament so far and won five out of them. They have lost only one match and one match was abandoned due to rain. With 11 points, Sultans are sitting at the top of the table and will hope to win the last few games. A few wins here will help them go into the final stage with some good momentum under their belt.
