Though the Indian Premier League (IPL) is suspended for an indefinite period due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but cricketing fans can still turn to the highlight reel and witness the most dominating displays with the bat that took place on April 23,2013.
Chris Gayle was turning out to be one of the standout performers for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after making his move from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp. But the best came against the Pune Warriors India at the Chinnaswamy Stadium where the Jamaican smashed a mammoth individual score of an unbeaten 175.

The Chinnaswamy witnesses history

It was Aaron Finch who was captaining the Pune Warriors India unit and elected to field first after winning the toss. The decision turned out to be quite costly for Finch. In the first over, Bangalore scored just the three runs, but in the second of Ishwar Pandey, Chris Gayle went for the full Monty and struck 21 runs. He then targeted Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh for 28 runs and got to his half-century in 17 balls.
The West Indies batsman didn’t spare anyone as smashed the likes of Ali Murtaza for 17 runs in an over as well as Aaron Finch who tried loosening his arm but got dismantled for 29 runs in a single over.  Chris Gayle got to his hundred in style as he heaved Ashok Dinda’s full-toss into the stands.
It took just 30 deliveries for ‘The Universe Boss’ to reach the landmark feat as it is to date the fastest century in T20 cricket.  But Gayle paved his way further as he surpassed Brendon McCullim’s score of 158 to register the highest individual total in T20 and IPL history which was 175* of 66 balls. Chris Gayle had struck 17 staggering sixes on that day
Chris Gayle‘s devastating innings led the RCB unit to a mammoth first innings total of 263 in 20 overs of play, which is also the highest ever team total in the IPL. The Warriors were completely outplayed as they were later dismissed for a meager 130.
