Indian skipper Virat Kohli took cricket world by surprise by mentioning a young pace bowler from Indian domestic circuit after the Indore T20. Indian captain went on to mention none other than Prasidh Krishna – Kanataka's pacer who represents Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
After the conclusion of the Indore T20, Virat Kohli went on to say “You’ll have to figure out who are the people that are very similar in their bowling skills, and you pick the senior one. I think one guy will be a surprise package going to Australia. Someone who can bowl with pace and has bounce,” at the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Prasidh Krishna has done well in the domestic arena. It is a great luxury to have this group of bowlers in all formats. Looking at the World Cup, we have enough options,” the Indian skipper further added.
People who follow Indian domestic cricket closely were not surprised at all by the statement as Prasidh Krishna has regularly been making inroads in the domestic cricket. His regular performances in the domestic circuit earned him a contract with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
Prasidh Krishna has played 6 first-class matches for Karnataka in which he has picked up 20 wickets at an impressive average of less than 23. The young-pacer has bagged 67 wickets in only 41 games in the white-ball cricket for his domestic team.
In IPL, Krishna has picked up 14 wickets in 18 games at a strike rate of a bit over 29. His IPL numbers don't look impressive but it is the improvement and growth he has shown in the 2 seasons define him.
Virat Kohli has a knack of picking up bowlers who can generate pace and bounce and hence, he is excited about Prasidh Krishna. Now, it will be exciting to see how the story unfolds from here and whether the bowler will indeed be India's secret weapon in Australia. However, Indian coach- Ravi Sashtri already has said that India's squad for the T20 World Cup will only be selected after the conclusion of IPL this year.
