Akash Chopra picks Rashid Khan: As the IPL 2021 is on countdown mode, plenty of fans and experts are already holding up discussion about the batsmen and bowlers to watch out for. Cricket broadcaster Aakash Chopra also also weighed in to have say on who he feels will win the Purple Cap this season. It’s Sunrisers Hyderabad’s very own Rashid Khan who gets the vote and it could quite possibly turn out to be true.
The former Indian opening batsman, in a video uploaded on his official Facebook account, listed other candidates as well who could have a major say with the ball in hand. Apart from the specialist wrist spinner Rashid Khan, Chopra also picked fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to be in an around that conversation of claiming the Purple Cap.
“I am going with Rashid Khan. His chances of picking the most wickets are bright this season. Amongst the fast bowlers, you could look at Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar,” Aakash Chopra was quoted saying.
The reason why Aakash Chopra feels that Rashid Khan might turn out to be the leading wicket take in the IPL this season, is because the Afghanistan international will get nine spin friendly wickets of Chennai and Delhi out of the 14 total league fixtures.
“I am going with Rashid Khan because his first five games are in Chennai. Then he plays four in Delhi. He is playing nine out of 14 games on spin-friendly wickets. He would be feeling that he has won a lottery. Should be getting two to three wickets every game,” he further added.
Rashid Khan has been one of IPL hottest properties through the years. Khan has picked up 95 wickets from just 51 IPL appearances for SRH, which also includes three four wicket hauls and two fifers. He has an economy rate of 6.21, which indicates that batsmen do not have a fun time facing him. In the previous season, Rashid Khan picked up 20 wickets, but fell behind South Africa’s Kaiso Rabada who scalped 30 wickets and won the Purple Cap.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will start their campaign by facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11.
