Danish Aziz makes debut: As South Africa and Pakistan are confronting one another in the 1st ODI, it was 25-year-old all rounder Danish Aziz who made the headlines. This is Aziz’s first ever match for Pakistan as he kooks to make a positive impression. In an interview held a few months ago, the youngster spoke about his dream to represent his nation and also spoke highly of his role model Yuvraj Singh. Qasim Aziz has mentioned that he wants to resonate Yuvaj Singh’s batting and bowling style.
“I always look to the former Indian all rounder Yuvraj Singh as my role model. I admire his style of stroke play and really like his balance and technique. It’s not just his batting but I also try to copy his style of bowling as well,” said Aziz.
Aziz has scored 768 runs from 31 List A matches. He also has five fifties and a hundred in the process. As for in T20 cricket the southpaw has scored 418 runs from 23 appearances, which includes three fifties, a strike rate of 138.41 and an average of 41.80.
It was Pakistan that won the toss and elected to field first. The hosts are currently at 240 for the fall of six wickets and will be aiming to get close to 275. R van der Dussen has been the standout performer and is batting at 102*. For Pakistan, it’s Shaheen Afridid and Haris Rauf who have picked up two wickets apiece as this look to restrict South Africa to a minimum.
Pakistan have their dominance over South Africa in the past couple of months or so. They won the Test series by 2-0, which was followed up a 2-1 win in the T20Is. However, with the three-match ODI series being hosted in South Africa, it becomes all the more difficult for the visitors this time around.
