Andre Russell and Chris Gayle were monitored after sustaining knocks in Windies win over Pakistan in the  ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 opener.

Russell, who sent down 2-4 overs of short-pitched bowling, and Gayle, the only player to reach 50 with the bat, contributed remarkably to a brilliant seven-wicket win in Nottingham.

Russell was treated for an ankle injury he sustained towards the end of Pakistan’s innings.

Russell, who turned the match with a volley of short-pitched deliveries, taking two wickets from his 3 overs, also insists he’ll be okay but he seems to be a little annoyed with his knee injury. Russell desperately wants to contribute as a bowler as he said: “I’ve more than enough time to get my knee back to normal and get it settled.”

Windies Captain Jason Holder is quite positive he said he is confident that both the players will be fully fit to play their next match, he adds further,” The duo will have time to recover, with their next match not until Thursday against Australia.”

Gayle’s form a big booster

Gayle scored a spectacular fifty off 33 balls as Windies secured a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in their World Cup opener at Trent Bridge on Friday.

Gayle struggled with running between the wickets and limped towards the end of the field.
