It has been an interesting test match between India and England. Both the teams have had a fair share of sessions they have won in the 4th Test Match. The Oval pitch was a relatively a flat surface and didn’t offer enough movement for the pacers with the new red cherry. But India gave away their wickets in the 1st Test Match and team had to settle up for a score of 190, with the half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Shardul Thakur. Then, England teamm with the support of batted well to take the lead of 99 runs.
With a lead of 99 runs, it was important for the Indian openers to start well and lay a strong foundation. They did exactly the same by playing out crucial overs, with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma stitching a partnership of 83 runs. Then, Rohit Sharma hit his first overseas century and added another 153 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara.
Then, Virat Kohli was consistent again in providing a hefty contribution with 44 runs. The 100-run partnership between Shardul Thakur and Pant gave the confidence to the team in winning the 4th Test Match. Surprisingly, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah scored 20+ runs to provide further momentum to the visitors.
The home team, England team started their 2nd innings well and were 78/0 at end of Day 4. The openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed were impressive in a 100-run partnership before Thakur opened the gates for Indian team by picking out the former’s wicket.
Then, a fine pressure was created by Ravindra Jadeja who was successful in picking 2 wickets. The ace bowler for Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah shocked the middle-order of England by dismissing Ollie Pope and Bairstow by his pitch-perfect good length ball and toe-crushing yorker respectively. The rest of the team, like Woakes and Root were removed by Umesh and Thakur respectively to finally help the team in winning the 4th Test match by 157 runs.
