The upcoming five-match Test series between England and India will mark the start of the 2021-23 cycle of the World Test Championship.

Pitch Report for India vs England 1st Test

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently shared the first look of the pitch at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham for the first IND vs ENG Test match. The wicket had heavy grass all over and it was really tough to differentiate between the pitch and the rest of the ground. In an important fact, some of the grass is likely to be shaved down as things move closer to the ultimate Test match but there will be enough help for the pace bowlers and things will surely be challenging for the batsmen from both the teams.

ENG vs IND Start Date

It will be interesting to see how both England and India pick their best possible combination for the first Test in Nottingham. India is likely to field a lone spinner in Ravichandran Ashwin alongside six specialist batsmen excluding wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. There will be a stern fight between KL Rahul and Hanuma Vihari for the sixth batsman’s slot in the India playing XI after the former’s brilliant century in the three-day warm-up clash. While talking about the pace bowlers, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami are certain to be part of the side but there will be a toss-up between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. It will be really important for India to start this Test series against England on a winning note.
