The second semi-final of the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy will see Gautam Gambhir’s Delhi take on Jharkhand in what is expected to be yet another pulsating encounter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

After overcoming their opposition with disdain on the back of their imperious batting strength throughout the group stage, Delhi’s bowling strength on full display as Kulwant Kejroliya (6-31) and Navdeep Saini (3-39) ran through Haryana’s batting line-up to bowl them out for 229 in 49.1 overs

Chasing 230, for a batting line-up like Delhi, was never going to be a problem and skipper Gautam Gambhir made sure the target was achieved with disdain. The left-hander scored a swashbuckling 72-ball-104 as Delhi finished off the chase in 39.2 overs to book their place into the semis.

Dhoni-less Jharkhand eye another ‘upset’

Jharkhand would have hoped that the addition of MS Dhoni would have given them a cutting edge ahead of the semi-finals, but the former Indian captain cited the teams’ good run of form to opt out of the tournament.

Indeed, Jharkhand has had an imperious tournament thus far. They finished Group C at the summit with seven wins in nine matches, and successfully carried that form in the quarters to knock Maharashtra out of the competition after Anukul Roy (4-32) and Rahul Shukla (3-35) ran through their batting unit for 181 in 42.2 overs.

Jharkhand’s target was curtailed due to rain and despite a slow start, fifty from Shasheem Rathour (53) ensured they strolled home in 32.2 overs to set up a semi-final clash with Delhi.
