Team Preview

Lucknow

In its first Indian T20 League season, the Lucknow franchise has played tremendously. The team is currently at number 2 spot with 7 wins to their name. The one thing that separates the Lucknow team from other teams is the perfect blend of veterans and young players.

KL Rahul has been unstoppable since the start of this season. So far, the Lucknow’s skipper has hit 451 runs with 2 centuries and 50s to his name. In the last match against Delhi, Rahul hit an astonishing 77 runs with his blade. Moreover, Deepak Hooda stepped to the mark and hit 52 runs off just 34 balls. The concerning thing for the team is the off-key performances from Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis this season. Both are world-class all-rounders; however, they have done very little to impress the fans so far in the season.

Mohsin Khan surprised the fans in the last match when he sent 4 Delhi players back to the dressing room. Khan had a jaw–dropping economy of 4.00 when he gave just 16 runs in his 4 overs. Dushmantha Chameera, Krishnappa Gowtham and Ravi Bishnoi took 1 wicket each in the last match.

Kolkata

The men in Purple bounced back in their last match and defeated the mighty Rajasthan. The batting unit of Kolkata finally upped their game in the last match as the middle order contributed heavily.

After an underwhelming performance from Arin Finch and Baba Indrajith, it was the innings of Nitish Rana that ushered the team towards victory. Rana scored 48 runs off 37 balls. Moreover, the skipper Shreyas Iyer’s form with the bat has been flawless this season. Iyer’s decent innings of 34 runs formed a much-needed partnership with Nitish Rana after the loss of two wickets earlier in the match. Youngster Rinku Singh came out with all guns blazing when he hit 42 runs off just 23 balls, hitting 7 boundaries in the process.

The bowling unit has not been up-to-the-mark for Kolkata. Earlier in the season, Umesh Yadav was taking wickets; however, in the last few matches, the Indian pacer has had less success. Tim Southee puluked 2 wickets for the team but was very expensive in the process.

Pitch Report & Conditions

The Black soil pitch of Maharashtra Cricket Association assists the spinners right away, the slow paced turfs have given some further assistance with the tournament into its latter half. However, the pacers have slightly less margin for errors as the ball skids on the surface and comes nicely on to the bat.
