Second-placed Renegades suffered 33 runs defeat in their last encounter against Sydney Sixers after registering two wins in opening two encounters. 

Renegades started their campaign with 4 wickets win over Perth Scorchers in the opening encounter and thrashed Adelaide Strikers by 5 wickets in the second encounter. However, they failed to carry the momentum against Sydney Sixers in the third encounter and faced 33 runs defeat while chasing 132 runs on the board. 

Ironically, Melbourne Stars managed a win in their third encounter against Sydney Sixers by 5 wickets after facing defeats in first two encounters. Stars lost their opening encounter by 15 runs under the DLS method against Sydney Thunder and were thrashed by 6 wickets by Hobart Hurricanes in the second encounter. However, they bounced back against Sydney Sixers in the third encounter and chased down the 130 runs target with five wickets in hand. 

It will be interesting to watch both the sides coming face to face to kick-start their New Year with a win.
