Match: Rajasthan vs Kolkata,  Indian T20 League

Date: 18th April, 2022

Time: 07:30 PM IST

Venue: Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai

After 29 matches in the Indian T20 League 2022, the points table has finally started to take shape. Rajasthan made a fantastic start to the tournament with back-to-back victories, but lost its momentum in the recent past. In the last match, Rajasthan shuddered a crushing defeat at the hands of Bangalore.

Kolkata also shares a similar fate as Rajasthan. Shreyas Iyer’s team was having a good time at the start of the season. However, after suffering back-to-back defeats, the team slipped down to number six. Now that the season is almost half-way done, the teams would want to strive for greatness.

Team Preview

Rajasthan

Sanju Samson’s team showed a lot of promise at the start of the tournament. Now, after five matches, the picture is more clear than ever. The team is struggling in the middle overs as there is no player to finish the innings. Although Sheldon Hetmyer is hitting the white ball pretty well this season, the batting lineup still lacks depth.

Opener Jos Buttler is still the Orange Cap holder with 272 runs in his bag. However, with his recent uninspiring performances with the bat, the top order is struggling. Skipper Sanju Samson has scored some runs for the team but is clearly struggling against the pacers this season.

Yuzvendra Chahal is leading the bowling unit of Rajasthan. The former Bangalore spinner dons the Purple Cap with 12 wickets in his five wickets. However, apart from Chahal, there is little help from the other bowlers. Veteran Ravichandran Ashwin has picked wickets this season, but is nowhere near his lethal self. Rajasthan must come up with different strategies for the next match.

Kolkata

The former two-time title winner, Kolkata is having a tough time this season. After six matches, the team managed to win three matches. The top of Kolkata is struggling as the team craves for Venkatesh Iyer’s hard-hitting. He has scored 103 runs in 5 innings at 20.60 so far. The off-key performance of the opening pair is a grave concern for the team as it has left a huge dent in the batting lineup of Kolkata.

Pacer Umesh Yadav is on a roll this season. The former Purple Cap holder has 10 wickets in his bag this season. However, in the recent matches, Yadav has proven to be a bit costly. Spinner Sunil Narine helped the team with the white bowl at the start of this season and has been instrumental since then. Varun Chakaravarthy has been a costly bowler for Kolkata as he has done very less with the white bowl.

Pitch Report & Conditions

The Brabourne Stadium’s wicket has proven to be one of the best batting pitches in all of Mumbai. Yes, the dew factor comes into play in the later stages of the match but there generally there is very less margin of error for the bowlers. Especially, with the stadium’s short boundaries, the batters love to hit the ball out of the park.
