Sri Lanka’s leg-spinner Wanindu Hasanranga has emerged as a player to look out for. The all-rounder played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s win over India in the recently concluded T20I series as he rattled through the inexperienced batting line-up of the hosts’ and helped his team create history by beating Team India for the first time in the bilateral T20I series.

RCB requests for Wanindu Hasaranga as a replacement for Adam Zampa 

The second phase of the IPL 2021 is all set to be played in the UAE and with many overseas players set to miss the second phase of the marquee tournament, the franchises are aiming for some replacements.

In the latest development, it is learned that Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who was part of the RCB team, had pulled out of the IPL 2021 midway citing personal reasons and the franchise has requested BCCI to rope in Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga as a replacement.

Earlier it was reported that four IPL franchise are interested in acquiring the services of the Wanindu Hasaranga, who is currently No.2 bowler in the ICC T20I rankings, for the remainder of the IPL 2021. If he manages to make cut into the RCB side then he can strengthen Virat Kohli-led side’s spin bowling line-up along with Yuzvendra Chahal

IPL 2021: Why was IPL 2021 postponed?

The 14th edition of IPL was indefinitely postponed with 29 of the 60 scheduled games played out. The COVID-19 cases among players and support staff inside the bio-bubble in as many as four teams led to the BCCI being forced to stop the tournament with immediate effect on 4th May.

Delhi Capitals are currently placed on the top of the table with six wins out of eight games and are followed by Chennai Super Kings with five wins in seven games. Royal Challengers Bangalore are on the number three spot with five wins in seven matches and defending Champions Mumbai Indians are placed fourth in the points table with four wins in their bag in seven matches.
