Young stars shine in the RCB intrasquad match

RCB, who are scheduled to play their first match of the second leg against KKR on the 20th of September, held a intrasquad practice match to test their bench strength. The entire squad was divided into two teams, RCB-A and RCB-B led by Harshal Patel and Devdutt Padikkal respectively. Harshal Patel’s team won the toss and elected to bat first.

In spite of losing an early wicket, RCB-A put on a massive total of 212 on the board, courtesy of a fine second-wicket partnership between AB de Villiers and Mohammed Azharuddeen. The latter scored a century and young Azharuddeen supported him with a well-made 66 of 43 balls. In reply, Padikkal’s team gave a strong fightback and reached the target in the last over, courtesy of a brilliant innings from KS Bharat. He scored 95 of 47 balls, which included 11 fours and 4 massive sixes. Padikkal’s team needed 3 runs of the last 2 balls and they finished the game in the last ball by hitting a boundary to clinch a 7 wicket win over their counterparts.

The star of the RCB intra squad practice match was AB de Villiers. The veteran who hadn’t played any competitive cricket since the last IPL didn’t look like he was out of action for the last couple of months. He completed his fifty in the seventh over itself and stitched a massive partnership with Mohammed Azzaruddeen. He then went on to score 104 runs from just 46 deliveries. His exploits included 7 boundaries and 10 massive sixes.

“When we arrived and I got out off the bus, I thought it’s crazy that we’re trying to play a cricket game in the middle of the day. Luckily the breeze came up, I told Azharudeen that it’s much better now and the pitch will get flatter. We had fun out there, I’m pleased with the runs on the board. It was very stretchy for the first 20 balls out there,” said De Villiers after scoring the hundred.
